Youth Music Tour (YMT):
In 2009 we came up with a crazy thought: teach the music and message of the Church to fifty junior/senior high schoolers, put them on a bus, and share their music with area churches. The trip expanded in 2012 through a partnership with Heartland Lutheran High School in Grand Island. This yearly event has since involved over 200 students, 2000 attendees, and dozens of congregations in Singing Boldly the message of Christ crucified for sinners!
Paul Soulek, cantor of St. John Lutheran-Seward, plans events for Youth Music Tour with the help of his goldendoodle, Silas. In addition to being the trip party planner, Paul serves as the organist/pianist for YMT. He loves all things food-related and is passionate about teaching of Christ’s love through music – both old and new.
Pastor Andrew Ratcliffe, pastor for Christian Nurture at St. John-Seward, serves as narrator and crowd control. Pastor Ratcliffe, an excellent classical guitarist, provides background on the hymns we sing through narration at YMT events. His energy and passion for teaching about Jesus are infectious and awesome!
Robin Seim is the music director at Heartland Lutheran High School, Grand Island, and takes the lead on directing, works with trip arrangements, and carries a purse that truly has everything for last minute attire or health emergencies.
Betsy Werner, music teacher at St. John-Seward, serves the trip in many and various ways. We are thankful for her excellent work in leading sectionals, managing trip logistics, preparing devotions, and especially encouraging us to sit up and Sing Boldly!
