Q: Why (yawwwwwn) do we have church so early on Easter morning?
A: “Very early on the first day of the week . . .” So begins the Gospel accounts of the resurrection of Jesus. Thus we gather very early to remember how the darkness of Good Friday gave way to the brightness of Easter, and how the sunrise on that day marked the rising of the Son of God from the grave. The service begins in silence and with lights dimmed, as we recall the darkness and gloom of Good Friday.
